First things first let's get this out of the way: I want the Sabres to win. You (assuming you're a Sabres fan reading this) want the Sabres to win. We are all happier when the Sabres win.
The best thing for the Sabres to do this year is to lose.
Does it guarantee a number 1 overall draft pick? Of course not, but that "coveted" spot that belongs to the team with the least amount of points at the end of the year guarantees one of Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel. No, they're not guaranteed to be anything spectacular. But anyone who has watched the magic that Connor McDavid creates every time he touches the puck knows that he is about as close to a sure-fire prospect as you will find. Eichel is producing similar results at a higher level at Boston College.
But I'm not here to repeat the same shit you've heard a thousand times about those two. But if you're one of those "I want to win and wont support a team that is trying to lose" people then get the fuck out of my face. Go cheer for the Capitals if you want to embrace mediocrity. The fact of the matter is that you need key pieces to win a Stanley Cup and the Sabres are obviously lacking that right now. Their farm system is the best in the league and adding 3 more 1st round picks this year (one of them hopefully being McDavid/Eichel) that is the making of a future POWERHOUSE team.
